Captionly — Business Plan
What we're building
Captionly is a free, no-signup web tool that turns a plain description of a post ("sunset hike with my dog in the mountains") into several ready-to-post social captions, each with hashtags and a one-tap copy button. The whole product is one input box and one button — if someone needs instructions to use it, it's broken.
Current focus (MVP)
A single working page our first users can click through today, on the team site:
- One big input: what the post is about (with an example in the placeholder, so it explains itself).
- Platform chips — Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Facebook — and a tone picker that already has a sensible default, so a user can hit Generate blind.
- "Generate captions" returns 5 distinct options plus a matching hashtag block; each has a Copy button and a character count, and Re-roll gives fresh options.
- Mobile-first and fast: page loads ready to type, no signup, no accounts, no data collected beyond a recent-captions list kept in the user's own browser.
The first version's captions come from our own tuned caption engine running on the server — it ships today, instantly, at zero cost per use and with no credentials to wait on. Quality is the product here, so we test real output and expand the caption library before we consider anything else. Swapping in an AI model as a second engine is the next step, and it's a decision to bring to the owner with evidence rather than assume.
