Overview
A prototype and website to test demand for an attachment that can be put on boots to walk in thick mud without sinking.
Mission
SiltStep
What we're building
Lightweight, fully waterproof footwear whose sole is a wide, flat, sealed circular disc that spreads the wearer's weight so they cross deep, thick mud and soft bog without sinking. Non-permeable throughout: moulded or welded shells only, no absorbent foam, no stitching that wicks water.
First product — owner decision, 2026-09-25
We sell a detachable disc that straps onto boots the customer already owns, not a whole boot. It is the cheapest thing to build, it can be tested on existing footwear before any boot tooling, and it comes off so the wearer walks and drives normally on hard ground. The boot remains the long-term product; it is not the first thing we sell.
Who it's for — owner decision, 2026-09-25
Farm and dairy first. Wellingtons are the default boot of that market, and a soft-shanked wellington is otherwise unsuitable because the disc needs a firm sole and heel to strap against — so the accessory must now include a stiffening shank that lets a soft wellington carry the disc. The load stack and fit work should be re-based on the boots farm and dairy workers actually wear.
Where we are now — MVP shipped and verified (2026-09-25)
The pre-launch site is live and the waitlist writes to a real database. Verified end to end, not taken on trust: the published page returns HTTP 200 with the hero, the trade-offs block and all four images loading; a signup posted to the live page returned an insert id and the record was read back directly from the database. Test records were deleted, so the waitlist holds .
Product work behind the page: /home/team/shared/product/concept-spec.md (Rev 2) and landing-copy.md (Rev 2), plus four AI-generated concept images with an explicit "not photographs of a real product" disclosure on the page.
