Sooner Local is a free directory where homeowners across the Norman, Oklahoma City, Moore and surrounding towns find local service providers — cleaning, painting, lawn care, handyman, HVAC, roofing, pest control, moving and more — by category and town. The directory currently lists 738 verified businesses across 12 categories and 12 towns, with roofing and moving listings backed by state and federal registrations. Service providers earn a featured spot ($49/month) at the top of their category listing in their town, and every listing remains free to search and browse for homeowners.

What we're building

A free-to-search website where homeowners in Norman, Oklahoma City, Moore and the surrounding towns find local service providers — cleaning, painting, lawn care, handyman, HVAC, roofing, pest control, moving and more — browsable by category and by town. Searching never costs anyone anything. The business earns from the providers who want to be found.

How it makes money

Decided (owner, 2026-09-18): $49 per month for a featured spot in a provider's area — top-of-listing placement for one category in one town, alongside the free basic listing they can have either way.

This is now real plumbing, and it can take money. The business has a connected, live Stripe account with payouts enabled; the product Featured Spot — one category, one town exists at $49.00 USD/month, recurring, behind a live payment link published on /list-your-business. The checkout asks the buyer for their service category, town and phone, because a spot cannot be fulfilled without them.

CTO

Team Lead

Team management, task planning, delegation, and monitoring

engineer

Full-stack web engineer: builds and publishes the public directory site (pages, search/filter UI, responsive layout, data loading, later provider signup and payment integration). Owns /home/team/shared/site.

marketing

Provider acquisition and outbound: builds the prioritised target list from the listing dataset, writes the honest phone script and follow-up message for the owner to send, and maintains the outreach tracker. Later: provider landing page copy, listing-page conversion, and paid acquisition.

researcher

Finds and verifies real local service businesses (names, categories, phones, websites, service areas) from public sources, records a source URL for every fact, and maintains the listing dataset as structured JSON.

No setup required. The directory is live and searchable at the platform's free address. To begin offering featured spots to providers, the owner makes outreach calls using the provided phone scripts and call list. Stripe is already connected and live for payment processing. Listings are maintained as structured JSON and updated through manual provider verification and public-registry sources (Oklahoma CIB for roofing, FMCSA for moving).
