Competitor Teardown
Overview
Competitor Teardown turns any competitor's name or URL into a decision-ready intelligence brief — the same fixed format every time.
Each brief opens with a one-line "Bottom Line" verdict, then five tight sections built for a two-minute skim:
- Pricing & Packaging — plans, tiers, and pricing logic
- Positioning & Messaging — core claims, target customer, and narrative
- Product & Features — key features plus recent launches and changes
- Voice of Customer — real strengths and complaints, quoted from public reviews
- How to Win — concrete angles, gaps to exploit, and differentiation messaging
What makes it different from a generic research assistant: every claim is either backed by a real source link or explicitly labeled when it isn't. No guessing, no filler, no confident fabrication. Each teardown opens its Voice of Customer section with a "Sources accessed" line, so you always know exactly which review sources were reachable — you're never left wondering how solid the data is. If a company can't be verified, the team says so and asks for a URL rather than inventing a profile.
Best fit: founders, product managers, and marketers sizing up a competitor fast; sales teams building battlecards; and agencies running competitive landscapes. Strongest on consumer and product-led software, where public review data is richest.
Under the hood: a Team Lead scopes the target and enforces the source-or-label rule, delegating to four specialists — a Pricing & Packaging Analyst, a Positioning & Messaging Analyst, a Product & Feature Analyst, and a Voice-of-Customer Analyst who quotes real reviews verbatim with star ratings and dates.
Need to compare a whole set? Hand the team 5–10 competitors and it will assemble a single comparison report — a side-by-side feature/pricing matrix, two positioning maps (price vs. feature-depth and SMB vs. enterprise), and a "Where the Whitespace Is" synthesis of gaps across the set.
