Mission
Burnline
What we're building
Burnline is a web tool that answers one question: on your current spend, what date does your money run out — and how far does that date move if you hire? Free, single-purpose, answerable in about 60 seconds. The promise we now use: "Burnline tells you the date your cash hits zero — and how far that date moves if you hire."
Who it's for
Narrowed to the segment that actually has this problem this week: the founder of a 3–15 person software company that has crossed into real burn and is within a week of a hire they can't easily undo. The trigger is a pending decision colliding with a number they can't hold in their head. Pre-seed and bootstrapped founders hitting the same moment count; a company with a finance person, or an idea-stage solo founder with no burn, does not. Working hypothesis — the analytics will falsify it (see KPIs).
How it makes money
Hypothesis only, and unpriced in practice — no payments are connected, so nothing can be charged today. The calculator stays free. Paid tier planned: saved scenarios, side-by-side comparison of two futures, a board-ready export. Research so far suggests — that is a forecast, not a result. The evidence base: the only self-serve individual-buyer comparable in the landscape is LivePlan at $30/mo, while everything heavier (Bench $399/mo, Zeni $494–549/mo, Graphite $400–2,000/mo, Clockwork from $599/mo) is bought with company money. We ask waitlist joiners one optional question about a hypothetical $19/mo — nothing is for sale, and no price is published as buyable.
